ONE great thing about spring is when the bluebells bloom, carpeting forests with their distinct violet hues.
As the days get warmer, we're heading towards the perfect time of year to get out and about and enjoy some quality time in the woodlands near Salisbury.
Here are some of the most scenic spots to go for a walk amongst the bluebells in and around the city.
1. Grovely Wood, Wilton
One of southern Wilshire's largest woodlands, seemingly endless swathes of bluebells make for a beautiful setting for any spring walk. Part of the Wilton Estate, the area is full of history.
2. Bentley Woods, Winterslow
Another beautiful location, just six miles east of Salisbury, the woods make for a perfect walk in the spring. Together with the adjacent Blackmoor Copse, the woods form one of the largest contiguous areas of woodland in Wiltshire and readers can enjoy a picturesque stroll among the blanket of bluebells.
3. Grove Wood, Salisbury
Rich with wildlife, wildflowers such as Welsh daffodils and cowslips, various herbs and, of course, bluebells, this woodland does not disappoint.
Set along the River Avon, Grove Wood is yet another beauty spot and a perfect location for a family walk when the Sun is out.
4. Broomy Inclosure, near Fordingbridge
Moving slightly further afield, to the southeast of Fordingbridge, Broomy Inclosure is on of the New Forest's most picturesque bluebell woods.
5. Sandleheath, near Fordingbridge
Another notable New Forest entry, the bluebells in Sandleheath are often found bordered by primroses and other spring flowers. The vivid violet colours of the bluebells bring joy and positivity on a sunny afternoon walk.
