Valerie still supporting her pop idols

SIXTIES chart busting pop group Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich have no bigger fan than Valerie "Red" Brickwood.

Red, as she prefers to be called and whose maiden name was Valerie Hall, grew up with members of the Salisbury based group, attended their local gigs when they were known as Dave Dee & The Bostons and has travelled to their concerts all over the country since they became famous.

All five members even went to her wedding 45 years ago at Salisbury Methodist Church and attended the reception afterwards at the city's Red Lion Hotel.

And Red - she got the nickname because of the colour of her hair as a girl - was in the audience on Friday night when the group were back in Salisbury for the City Hall "Solid Silver 60s Show."

Red, who now lives at Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight, said: "The boys are all great friends of mine and, for me, they'll always be the tops.

"Even now I remember the words of their 13 chart hits, including The Legend of Xanadu, better than I do to chart toppers of a month a two ago."
