New gig date gets off on a high note
 |
| UK HipHop act 'Lazy Habits' at the Salisbury Arts Centre. DB3728P08 |
THIS was the Arts Centre's first taste of their new gig initiative on Saturday night.
They, in collaboration with Bass Connection, aim to revitalise the music scene and pack out the venue like the good old days.
The bill consisted of some of the best local talent, along with a band making their way up the national musical ladder to top things off.
I arrived just in time to catch Go Vegas! take to the stage, bringing with them their growing reputation.
I have to say I spent most of their set watching the drummer. I know he's only been playing for six months or so, but you'd never believe it. He's damn good and he's so engaging, playing with such joy and enthusiasm - a pleasure to watch.
The songs are consistently good, and well written too. The song Single', in particular, has a brilliantly catchy chorus.
Mitchell Devastation was up next and delivered, as always, a thoroughly enjoyable and polished set.
Thank You, Teacher' is my favourite track of theirs, it's well thought out, and delivered with class. New material is in the pipeline too, so I'm looking forward to hearing the results of their endeavours. Another fine show from these fine young gents.
Lazy Habits brought their brand of Brit Hip Hop to the stage as the night's headliners, and started off with one man on stage performing human beatbox which was thoroughly entertaining.
The rest of the band, complete with brass section soon joined him, as they embarked on a set that would enrapture all present. The rhymes were flowing and the music was interesting, it was just the kind of fresh act Salisbury has been crying out for.
Lazy Habits also sparked something I can't say I've seen at the end of a show here before a dance-off. Now that takes some doing, so hats off to you lads.
If the Arts Centre can continue to bring in a variety of such acts, with national pedigree to headline, the big crowds will be flocking back in no time and that's a certainty.
