A NEW interim principal has taken over the reins at Sarum College.

Stephen Lamdin, a chartered accountant with specialist skills in managing institutions of higher and further education in both the public and the private sector, took over the role on May 1.

Mr Lamdin's early career was spent training chartered accountants and managing a number of private sector training companies.

In 1996 he was appointed the founding director of the Botswana Accountancy College, which specialises in accountancy and business skills. A joint venture between De Beers and the government of Botswana, it is now the country's second-largest higher education institution.

On his return home, the Braemore resident was appointed director of finance and planning at Salisbury College and was heavily involved with its recent merger with Wiltshire College.

He said: "I feel enormously privileged to be working in such a unique organisation and have been overwhelmed by the warm welcome here. Sarum College's special blend of spirituality and fellowship is already working its magic."
