Pram race brings Easter fun

A PRAM race brought a badly needed injection of fun and cheer to Salisbury on a bitterly cold Easter Bank Holiday Monday.

Hundreds of people turned out for the event and saw thrills and spills as 13 teams with prams tore around pedestrianised streets bordering the city's Market Place.

Two heats of two laps each were followed by a one-lap grand final - with a team from local radio station Spire FM emerging as the winners.

The afternoon's entertainment was organised in aid of Salisbury Hospice and other racer included the Neilson family, nurses from the hospice and teams from the Red Lion Hotel, the Royal George in Bedwin Street, Black Horse in Castle Street, Salisbury St John Ambulance, Endell Veterinary Surgery, LA Fitness, Marks & Spencer, Absolutely Sparkling and Edoscopy.

Many of the team members sported fancy dress outfits and colourful wigs - and the carnival atmosphere was added to by appearances by children's entertainers Ticklish Allsorts and Jonathan the Jester and his Table Top Circus.

Prizes were awarded to Spire FM as winners of the race, the Royal George for the best pram, Red Lion A as the best dressed team and Absolutely Sparkling for the best dressed bike.

And a special prize was given to the Endell Vets team, whose race chances were wrecked when their pram lost a wheel.
